Maasai Mara Photo Safari

Many people have a safari on their bucket list and there is no better place to do this than in Kenya. The Maasai Mara is perhaps the world’s most iconic reserve and this year I’m adding Lake Nakuru as a second destination on the tour. Safari means ‘journey’ and I’d love to be your guide on this journey of a lifetime!

I’ve been professional photographer since 2005 and I’ve taught photography since 2009. My wife comes from Kenya and my links to the country combined with my experience as a photography instructor and tour leader mean I’m uniquely placed to lead this trip. I was recognised by the Kenya Tourism Board as a 2017 Kenya Champion. Here’s what you can expect on this incredible trip…

We’ll meet in Nairobi where we’ll spend a night at the comfortable Heron Hotel. The next morning we will be collected in a custom Land Cruiser and take a 3 hour drive through Kenya’s beautiful countryside to Lake Nakuru where we’ll stay at the Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge for 2 nights. Lake Nakuru is home to a diverse array of wildlife and with our lodge being inside the national park itself we’ll be within touching distance of white rhino, giraffe, lions, cheetahs and leopard. The lake and surrounding area is also home to over 400 species of bird.

After 2 nights we will drive to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to take a breathtaking 45 minute flight, landing on a dirt airstrip inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve. We will be met by our expert guide, Ken, who will transfer us to the lovely Sarova Mara Tented Camp, our base for the next 4 nights. You’ll sleep in a wonderful tent within the camp grounds and enjoy some of the best hospitality that Kenya has to offer. Our twice-daily game drives will allow us plenty of time to explore the Mara and you can expect to see lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetah, zebra, hippos, hyena, gazelles, warthogs, elusive leopards, rare black rhino as well as hundreds of species of birds including kingfishers, vultures, long-crested eagles, lilac-breasted rollers, cranes and storks. There will be time set aside for photography tuition sessions and also 1-to-1 image reviews and, of course, some time to relax at the pool! After 4 nights we will fly back to Nairobi where you can continue your African adventure or begin your journey home.

You’ll leave Kenya with some new photos, new friends, memories to last a lifetime and probably with a desire to come back as soon as you can!

Guest Testimonials

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you Graham for organising such a wonderful trip for us all. From the start to the finish it was the most extraordinarily fantastic experience. At times it was hard to hold back the emotions that each day brought to me. I have wanted to visit the Maasai Mara for as long as I can remember and your foresight in bringing this opportunity to keen photographers has made my dream come true.

As you have said in your vlogs the Sarova Mara Game Camp made us all so very welcome and the staff there went above and beyond to give us an awesome experience. Ken our guide/driver was so full of knowledge which he imparted with great enthusiasm.

I also wanted to add that anyone thinking of joining Graham on a future trip to Kenya which he may organise should grab the opportunity with both hands. You will not be disappointed.” – Kathleen Reid

“Before I went on safari I had a lot of concerns, mainly the natural worries about health and security when traveling to a new destination, despite being an experienced traveler.  Your organizational skills and planning made all these worries void. From our arrival in Nairobi and through to the end of the trip I was able to relax and just enjoy the experience.  The team that you have gathered plus the hotel staff made the holiday an unforgettable experience,  indeed the holiday of a lifetime.

“Despite having some expertise in photography, I learned a lot from you and there are some shots that I can now take on, that I previously would have been clueless to tackle.  I have been applying those lessons since getting back to Aberdeen and its nice to have extra skills acquired on such a memorable trip.

I also learned a lot outside of photography, particularly about our privileged life here and how we can meaningfully provide help to people less fortunate.  So without having that agenda the trip was extremely beneficial.” – Ian R Booth
