An Evening with Charlie Waite

Earlier this week I enjoyed one of the highlights of my career as I hosted ‘An Evening with Charlie Waite’.

Charlie Waite is a legend in UK landscape photography and is one of the world’s finest landscape photographers. I invited Charlie to talk in Aberdeen as part of the Converge Lecture Series which is a series of events I created to bring the photography community together here in the North East of Scotland.

After months of planning and promotion the day of the event finally arrived. I nervously met Charlie at the Airport and we spent some time together in the run up to the event that evening.

The 165 eager photography enthusiasts who filled the lecture theatre at the Robert Gordon University’s Sir Ian Wood Building and were utterly mesmerised by Charlie’s photographs but also by his gracious and humble attitude. Charlie has a certain calmness about him which could put anybody at ease but also a child-like wonder about the art and craft of photography. This showed through not only in his thoughtful and serene images but also in his insightful, intelligent, articulate and inspirational talk.

I’ve had so much positive feedback about the event and I want to thank everyone who bought a ticket and came along on the night. The photography community is thriving and events like these help inspire everyone to new heights and build a community spirit among local photographers of all skill levels.

I’m extremely grateful to have met Charlie and I really value the time I spent with him. As I said in closing the event, when I grow up, I want to be like Charlie Waite!
